Keep California Beautiful
Keep California Beautiful is a nonprofit organization working with multiple program partners on public education and outreach campaigns aimed at making California the cleanest state in the nation! We support thousands of cleanup and beautification events across the state by donating our resources and supplies such as garbage bags, seed packets, and recycling and trash receptacles. Please explore our site to learn more about what you can do to help Keep California Beautiful.

Cear Inc
Responsible ways of getting rid of E-waste is through CEAR, Inc (California Electronic Asset Recovery.) They are a local Sacramento Electronic Recycling center that recycles all types of products like cell phones, computer laptops, televisions, and stereos. All this recycling started off in a simple garage. The process of how Cear deals with there materials is they dismantle, take apart. While simultaneously avoiding the possible escape of hazardous substances. The E-waste recycled like glass, plastic and metals. Which later are make into new materials.

McDonald’s
For my volunteer hours I choose to work with Keep California Beautiful (KCB) and California Electronic Asset Recovery (CEAR). The event took place on Friday April 22, 201 at 13 different McDonald’s locations across Northern & Central California. I, Rafael was stationed to work at the McDonald’s in Stockton, California. Our job was to wait for people to drop off thier E-Waste at no charge. While at that location we did not get much people. We got a total of 2 drive people that drove by and dropped their E-Waste. So not much adversing was made for this site. From what I seen their was only 1 poster. The poster in front of McDonald’s was not very visible to the public. Us workers that were at this site in Stockton, basically had to go on foot and advertise door by door, business to business. This process got us the majority of our total E-Waste collected. What could have been beneficial is if we had people use posters to advertise while at the site.

Ecological Footprint
How much land area does it take to support ones lifestyle? If everyone lived the lifestyles of the average American we would need 5 planets. Many activities impact our Footprint, from what we eat to how we travel. If everyone lived like me, we’d need 4.7 Planet Earths to provide enough resources. I was happy with my results because my average was less than the worlds average. If could change some things to reduce my Ecological Footprint first I would reduce the amount of animal products I currently eat by half. The reason why I would change this is because, this question was one of my highest in the quiz. If every American did this according the Ecological Footprint quiz we’d use 645 million fewer global acres an area that 484 million football fields. The second thing I would change would be to purchase products that use less packaging or were made out of 100% post- consumer recycled content material. Also I choose this because it was the second highest in my Ecological Footprint quiz. According to the footprint network if every American did this we’d use 521 million fewer global acres, an area that could cover 391 million football fields. If these changes are made my Ecological Footprint would deprive from using 4.7 to 3.7 Earth Planets needed. This means 1.0 less Earth Planets is need to support my lifestyle.

Helping Produce Less Trash
One change I have since I started taking an Eviormental Science class is that I no longer purchase water bottles. Instead of going to Costco and purchasing 4 boxes of water, every 2 week. Me and my roomate now carry around water jugs. I purchased mine at Sacrament State Book Store. We also purchased two 5 gallon water containers. We only pay $1.75 per refill on each jug. The great thing about these 5 gallon tanks and my personal water jug is that I can reuse them. Which means I am producing less waste, then I did before. Which means less items are going into landfills. All it takes is a little change to make an impact on the world. Why not make a change to help the future.
